Compact Development

Compact development is enormously beneficial to the community. Close proximity between homes allows for more neighbor-to-neighbor interaction. More spread out developments, often referred to as suburban sprawl, leave very little room for community gathering spaces. Both Lawson Hills and The Villages have open spaces throughout, serving as visual and physical focal points that bring people together for shared experiences. These open spaces can be used for dog walking, casual play, organized sporting events, potlucks, and many other outdoor activities. All of these activities are made possible because compact development yields additional land for non-residential use.

Compact development also has a positive impact on the environment. The EPA lists compact developments as a primary component of smart growth. In fact, a 2000 study in New Jersey found that compact development produced 40 percent less water pollution than more dispersed communities. The substantial benefits to the community and the environment support YarrowBay’s decision to embrace compact development principles in Lawson Hills and The Villages.
