Environmental Stewardship
Careful planning for the growth of Black Diamond is the only way to preserve open spaces and the small town character that make Black Diamond such a wonderful place to work and live. YarrowBay’s commitment to creating a sustainable community, as well as our conservation of resources during construction will protect the Black Diamond lifestyle moving forward.
Our commitment to sustainable practices and environmental stewardship include green building techniques that utilize recycled resources in construction, recycling and minimizing construction waste, and low impact development techniques such as rain gardens that protect water quality. Additionally, we will encourage water conservation, energy efficient lighting, appliances, and heating and cooling in homes and businesses. A clustered, mixed-use community, providing local jobs and local shopping, connected to walkable neighborhoods, helps reduce vehicle trips and other impacts on the environment.
Both The Villages and Lawson Hills include a number of provisions for the control of stormwater, including regulations that address concerns about phosphorus flowing to Lake Sawyer. We will be working with City Staff to ensure that all conditions are met, and we have committed to no net increase of phosphorus runoff from the developed portions of Lawson Hills MPD and The Villages that drain into Lake Sawyer. The lake is a treasured resource of the Black Diamond community, and we are confident that by taking the necessary measures for its protection, we are doing our part to help it remain healthy for generations to come.
